{"id":1055,"date":"2022-08-23T22:18:17","date_gmt":"2022-08-23T19:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kaf1.moscow\/?page_id=1055"},"modified":"2022-08-23T22:26:26","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T19:26:26","slug":"unit-1-project-work","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/kaf1.moscow\/?page_id=1055","title":{"rendered":"unit 1: project work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-color\">INDIVIDUAL PROJECT WORK<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Emerging Democracies: Challenges And Prospects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Undertake interdisciplinary research on a topic related to the challenges faced by the so-called emerging democracies, i.e. formally democratic states of the developing world that are still in the process of transition from colonial or authoritarian rule to a democratic regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Each student is expected to carry out an individual research project in which they will investigate a selected aspect (e.g. political institutions, civil society, etc.) of the democratic process in a new democracy (former colony), analyse the data and make conclusions. The results are to be presented in the form of a ten-minute PowerPoint Presentation (see the Manual). The project must demonstrate the student\u2019s knowledge of the issue in question and their ability to find reliable sources of information as well as critical thinking, and presentation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-color\">Stage 1. Identifying the problem to look into (one week)<\/mark><\/strong><br>\u25a0 Decide on the country whose democratic process you would like to investigate.<br>\u25a0 Formulate a research question (the answer to it will be your claim).<br>\u25a0 Think of a working title for the project.<br>\u25a0 Make a preliminary outline or a list of issues to look into.<br>\u25a0 Submit your research proposal in Google Docs, by email, or in hard copy (discuss with your professor in advance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-color\">Stage 2. Researching (two weeks)<\/mark><\/strong><br>\u25a0 Find reliable sources of information and investigate the topic of your choice.<br>\u25a0 Articulate the claim you are going to make (the main conclusion of your<br>findings).<br>\u25a0 Make a list of arguments in support of your claim.<br>\u25a0 Make sure the arguments are substantiated by evidence, i.e. facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-color\">Stage 3. Preparing a PPP (one week)<\/mark><\/strong><br>Study the guidelines for making presentations in the Manual.<br>\u25a0 Study the parameters and criteria for assessing project presentations in your assessment files.<br>\u25a0 Discuss in class any questions you have left.<br>\u25a0 Prepare a PPP.<br>\u25a0 Do not forget to make a slide with a list of the sources you used (references).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-color\">Stage 4.
